GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- Last week, Galveston's police chief was placed on administrative leave. And now, we've learned he's stepping down.
The department announced Chief Henry Porretto will retire from GPD, effective October 30, and will be on leave until that date.
Chief Porretto was placed on administrative leave on September 16 after the city received information about an employment issue. With Porretto's resignation, the investigation ends.
Porretto has served as Galveston's police chief since 2012. Before that, he was interim police chief from June of 2011 to July of 2012.
David Smith, a 35-year city employee, is serving as the acting police chief.
