HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Essential oils are commonly used for aromatherapy, massages, and even baths. But essential oil enthusiast April Reeder says there are some interesting internal and topical uses to take advantage of too.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil can be used internally for or topically by drinking a drop or two or by rubbing on the stomach for a tummy ache. We can also rub on the temples for a persistent headache. Be very careful not to get it in the eyes. If you ever get an essential oil in your eyes use a carrier oil to get it out. You could use coconut, olive or almond oil to assist in removing essential oil from eyes.

Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil can be sprinkled in bathtub or shower to clear up sinus issues or congestion. I also hang a fresh branch of eucalyptus on the shower head to bring out the oils in the leaves.

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil has many healing properties. It can be used to relax. It also helps heal cuts, burns, and scrapes. Also, since Lavender is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral, mix it with water to create a spray. Spritz it on your yoga mat to kill any germs. It also makes an incredible tasting frosting for cupcakes and tea.
