HOUSTON (KTRK) -- More than 200 schools across Houston plan to offer free summer meals.

The program kicks off today across HISD. The District will offer free breakfast and lunch to children.

The "Summer Meals Program" allows children ages 1 to 18 to eat two free meals a day at local public schools, even when class isn't in session. There's no registration or proof of income required. Also, children do not need to be enrolled in summer classes. They also do not need to attend an HISD school to participate in the program.

HISD said they served more than 1.7 million free meals last year. For a complete list of locations, visit www.houstonisd.org/summermeals.
