HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A cold front from Canada arrives Wednesday morning, and it will add a chill into the air we have not felt in almost 8 months!

The cold front will pass through dry while most are asleep, reaching Houston by sunrise. Temperatures will start off in the mid 50s, right where they were Tuesday morning, but this time there will be a brisk north wind blowing around 20 mph. Despite a perfectly sunny sky, temperatures in Houston will only climb into the upper 60s as the north wind continues to blow in the chilly air from Canada. Houston has not recorded a high in the 60s since March 27th! Once the wind settles down Wednesday evening, temperatures will quickly drop with lows in the 40s and 30s by sunrise Thursday.

How cold will it get behind this front?

Wednesday afternoons high in the upper 60s will be the coolest afternoon we get out of this one, and Thursday morning looks to be the coldest morning. In fact, rural parts of Southeast Texas could even have a light frost on the ground by sunrise Thursday. We'll enjoy morning lows in the 40s and highs in the 70s Thursday through Saturday.

Will this front bring any rain?

No. The air will be too dry for any clouds or precipitation to form along the next cold front. We won't have another chance of rain until next week.

What is the early outlook for Thanksgiving Day?

Ahead of Thanksgiving it will get warm and humid again with lows in the 60s and highs in the 80s, but on or around Thanksgiving Day we have another cold front penciled in. The timing of this front is in question, but we have some time to figure it out. Right now we have lows in the 60s and highs in the 70s for the holiday with a 30% chance of showers as cooler air blows in. We'll keep you posted as the holiday forecast comes into greater clarity!

When could we get our first freeze?

Long range projections indicate that the earliest our first freeze could happen is the first week of December, but that is a low probability at this time. On average, Houston's first freeze occurs during the second week of December.
