Chilly fall air sticks around for a few more days
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- We started off cold this morning with temperatures in the 30s and low 40s. We are warming up though this afternoon with highs topping out in the low 70s under sunny skies.
Overnight, cool and dry air will again allow temps to drop into the 40s. It shouldn't be quite as cold as Thursday morning but it will be chilly, so a jacket will be necessary.
How long does this chilly fall air stick around?
You'll get to enjoy this lovely weather through Saturday. The Gulf breeze will kick up a notch on Sunday, bringing back mild mornings and warm, humid afternoons.
When is our next cold front?
We have a weak front penciled in Monday of next week followed by a potentially stronger front on Thanksgiving.
What is the early outlook for Thanksgiving Day?
Ahead of Thanksgiving it will get warm and humid again with lows in the 60s and highs in the 80s, but on or around Thanksgiving Day we have a stronger cold front penciled in. The timing of this front is still in question, so it could still be a warm Thanksgiving Day following a cold Black Friday. We'll continue to refine the timing and impacts as the holiday approaches.
When could we get our first freeze in Houston?
Long range projections indicate that the earliest our first freeze could happen is the first week of December, but that is a low probability at this time. On average, Houston's first freeze occurs during the second week of December.
