Lower humidity continues most of Saturday, storms return Mother's Day

A brief drop in humidity before storms return Mother's Day
ABC13 weather has your Houston forecast details, with doppler radar for southeast Texas and live cameras for the weather where you are, all week long.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- We've been enjoying some lower humidity since Friday morning, and while that will continue through most of Saturday, by Sunday we've got widespread storms in the forecast.

While Saturday starts dry, shower are possible later in the day and especially Saturday evening. Temperatures will start in the upper 60s and warm into the mid 80s under a partly sunny sky. A dry northeasterly breeze will greet us at sunrise, but by the late afternoon that wind will turn more to the southeast.

The smoky haze from Mexico and Central America will continue to reduce the air quality, but it will not be as thick as it was this past week.

Is Mother's Day going to be a washout?

It's possible, but it probably won't rain the entire day. The weather pattern will feature a slow-moving upper air storm interacting with a warm front moving in from the Gulf of Mexico, so there is the potential for both heavy rainfall and severe weather. If you have any outdoor plans for Mother's Day, be ready to run for cover inside in case the storms head your way. At this time we expect 1-3" of rain to be common north of I-10 with an inch or less to the south of I-10. Over half a foot of rain is possible somewhere north of I-10 on Sunday, and street flooding will occur wherever that happens.

Could any storms turn severe on Sunday?

Yes, but the overall risk of encountering one is low. If any severe storms form, they would likely bring large hail.

Can we expect more storms next week?

Yes, actually. The same storm system that brings widespread rain on Mother's Day will likely bring more storms on Monday. Then we'll catch a couple days of dry weather before another storm system blows through on Thursday. That one could also bring heavy rain and severe storms.
