HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- One person is in custody following a middle of the afternoon shooting and carjacking that left one person dead.

A look at how this deadly afternoon in southwest Houston unfolded.

Police say four masked gunmen armed with rifles and an assault weapon shot two people in the 6800 block of London Street in southeast Houston Monday around 1:15 in the afternoon.

The men crashed their car and proceeded to carjack a woman and her baby.

The mom was able to get her baby out of the car seat before the suspects took off. They were not hurt.

Three of the suspects took off in the woman's 2005 green Kia Sedona that is missing its front grill and has paper plates.

The fourth suspect fled on foot.

One of the shooting victims, a 50-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim underwent surgery at the hospital. An update on his condition has not been provided.

It's not clear how the person in custody was involved or if he's a suspect.

Police say they have good surveillance video, so they're confident they'll catch the gunmen.

The identities of the victims, or if they were the intended targets of the violence, has not been released by police.
