Suspect guns down woman in parking lot
A gunman is on the run after shooting a woman in the head as, eyewitnesses say, she begged for her life

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A woman leaving work near the Medical Center was shot multiple times as she pleaded for mercy.

The shooting happened Thursday evening in the 2200 block of Dorrington behind a medical professional building that faces W. Holcombe. An eyewitness described a brutal scene.

"It seems like it was personal because the guy went completely after her. She was pleading for mercy. She was begging him not to do it. She was saying, 'No, no!'" said the eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous.

According to Houston police, the woman had just left work. As she was walking towards her car, a man approached her. It escalated and she tried to get away. The eyewitness says he shot at her as she tried to shield herself. He followed her to a sidewalk where he shot her in the back of the head.

According to the victim's family and the hospital, she's in critical condition.

The gunman took off down the street and hopped in a red SUV. A nearby doctor tended to the 47-year-old woman before an ambulance arrived.

Police believe the two knew each other and that he had recently been at the building. She left behind fresh roses in her front passenger seat and bloody clothing on the sidewalk.

Police say they know who the gunman is and are working to get an arrest warrant. The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
