Girl's organ donations saves 2 kids
3-year-old Olivia Swedberg has helped at least 2 kids through the gift of organ donation

NORTH PLATTE, NE (KTRK) -- A 3-year-old could save the lives of several children with the gift of her organs. She's already helped at least two children.

Olivia Swedberg, of North Platte, Nebraska, had a terminal disease that had a zero percent survival rate.

Her family knew they had to live life to the fullest every single day. Recently, they were on a Disney cruise when Olivia's condition deteriorated.

Lauressa Swedberg, Olivia's mother, recalled to local station KNOP, "When I was in Orlando a lady emailed me and said she had been following Lucas's story and knew he needed a liver transplant."

Lucas, a little boy who lives in the Pittsburgh area, had only a few weeks to live and they contacted Olivia's family. After speaking with Lucas' family, Lauressa Swedberg arranged for a direct organ donation for Lucas.

It turns out Olivia's liver was the miracle Lucas needed. His family says they are very grateful. Jessica Goeller, Lucas's mother said, "You look at those pictures and you look into (Olivia's) eyes and it's like her soul is coming -- and it takes a very strong person to step out of that and show love for somebody like our donor family did."

The Swedbergs say another child is also benefiting from the donation of Olivia's organs. A little boy named Angelo received her bowels. He was born with his intestines on the outside of his stomach.

Olivia's mom says they are finding peace knowing olivia is helping other kids. Lauressa Swedberg said, "She is an amazing little girl and we will miss her so terribly, but I know that, I have renewed faith. I have seen God's hands work in this and how could I not move forward knowing what a miracle she was to these pleading, praying families."
