Millionaire on trial
The Houston millionaire accused of killing another driver four years ago is due back in court today

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Houston millionaire accused of killing another driver four years ago is due back in court today.

John Goodman, 51, is being retried on charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide in the death of Scott Wilson, 23.

Goodman crashed his $200,000 Bentley into Wilson's Hyundai back in 2010, sending the Hyundai into a Florida canal. Wilson, who had just graduated from college, died.

The first moments of the John Goodman trial got off to a bizarre twist when juror number 10 told the judge she had been heckled at her hotel two nights in a row by unknown people standing by the pool, ABC affiliate WPBF-TV reports.

The juror said the first night she was on her balcony and heard someone yell toward her "Watch out, you'll go to jail like Van," which is likely a reference to Travis Van Vliet. He's a prospective juror jailed in Tampa for contempt of court for Googling words in the trial.

Judge Jeffery Colbath said he was "scratching my head" trying to figure out what this meant for the trial, especially since jurors are being sequestered this time around to avoid any juror misconduct. The defense moved to strike the juror for cause, but Colbath denied the motion.

Goodman was convicted of the same charges in 2012 and sentenced to 16 years in prison, but that conviction was thrown out because of juror misconduct. In the previous trial, he claimed his car malfunctioned and lurched forward, causing it to slam into Wilson's vehicle.

Goodman denied being drunk at the time of the crash, but prosecutors said his blood alcohol level was 0.177, twice the legal limit, when it was tested hours after the crash. Prosecutors also say Goodman fled the scene and waited an hour before calling 911.

The first trial featured countless twists, including the adoption of his own girlfriend, Heather Hutchins, allegedly to preserve part of his multi-million dollar fortune for her. That adoption was later thrown out.

Goodman is again is pleading not guilty to the charges.
