A fire at a University of Houston fraternity forced members out of their homes

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Some University of Houston fraternity brothers are staying with friends right now. That's because the Kappa Alpha Order house filled with smoke late last night after a fire started in the attic.

The students living there first tried to put out the fire themselves, but it didn't work and they called the fire department.

Members turned on their heater for the first time a couple of days ago and believe that and faulty wiring may have caused the fire.

"We've had electricians come by in the past and tell us that this house is just made pretty bad," said Dillon Koops with the Kappa Alpha frat. "So like just as far as all the electronics goes, it ties into the AC. Could be the electronics. We think it has something to do with the AC."

Members will be staying with friends while their fraternity house is repaired.
