A local doctor who just returned from West Africa has a unique insight into what it will take to stop this thing

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- The doctor who led the CDC's on-site efforts against Ebola says transmission of the disease is going down in some parts of Sierra Leone.

Doctor Tom Ksiazek spent 30 days in Sierra Leone. He returned to Galveston last week.

"Well, If you go to an Ebola outbreak you sort of have to expect that you're going to see dead people and people who are infected with it," Ksiazek said, "I was prepared personally having dealt with this before."

Ksiazek said doctors working in West Africa are doing their best with limited resources. He said there is a shortage of ambulances, burial vehicles and beds. Despite the challenges, transmissions of the disease is going down in some areas.

"So there are some positive aspects to the control efforts in Sierra Leone, Ksiazek said.
