Home test can determine your risk for breast cancer

If you're a woman who has a strong family history of breast cancer, doctors say it's a good idea to get a test for the BRCA gene mutation.

Although this test is usually pricey, a new company is launching a new user-friendly at-home test that's the most affordable yet.

"One in eight will get breast cancer in their lifetime, so it's very important the women who are high risk, we want them to have access to the test," said Dr. Valerie Montgomery of Rice University.

Most genetic tests can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars, this test costs $149. The test is called "Color" and it lets women begin the process from the comfort of their own home.

All you have to do is provide a saliva sample, which carries your DNA, and send it off to the lab.

Once your test is analyzed, you receive your online results in 3 to 4 weeks.

Part of that $149 is a complimentary consultation to go over your results.
