Here are the top 50 places to work in 2017

NEW YORK -- If you're looking for a new job, you'll probably want to start here: Glassdoorannounced Thursday its 50 Best Places to Work in 2017.

The consulting firm Bain & Company takes the lead, followed by Facebook in second and Boston Consulting Group in third. This is Bain & Company's third year in first place - the company took the top spot in 2012 and 2014, and is among only three employers to make the list every year.

All 50 companies listed have New York City area locations, even though the city didn't make Glassdoor's list of Top 25 Best Cities for Jobs in 2016.

Glassdoor also released its 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For to highlight exceptional employers with fewer than 1,000 employees. New York-based Greenhouse Software tops this list, followed by Illuminate Education and Entelo. Of the 50 small and medium companies, six have New York City locations.

The career website based each employer's rankings on ratings given by company employees during the year. Employees rated their company on a 5-point scale, with 5 being "very satisfied" and 1 being "very dissatisfied."
