Thinking electric? Here's how drivers are saving big

In our series, Driving Into the Future sponsored by Electric for All, we take a look at how electric vehicles can help you save money.

As gas prices continue to fluctuate and more drivers weigh their transportation costs, many consumers are exploring whether an electric vehicle could make financial sense for their lifestyle.

Supporters of EV adoption say one of the biggest selling points comes down to savings.

Drivers who switch to electric vehicles can save roughly $2,000 annually on fuel costs alone, according to advocates, while lower maintenance needs -- including eliminating routine oil changes -- can add up to significant savings over the life of the vehicle.

"The best way you can save on gas is not buying gas, right?" said Josh Boone, Executive Director of Veloz, the nonprofit organization behind Electric For All.

But Boone says numbers alone don't always convince people to make a major purchase decision.

"We just recently launched what we're calling the Real Stories Hub, and it is really about generating trust and meeting people where they are in that moment of decision," Boone said.

The new hub, part of Electric For All's educational campaign, features first-person stories from EV owners across the country -- from families and renters to commuters and adventure travelers -- with the goal of helping potential buyers see how electric vehicles fit into everyday life.

The platform showcases experiences from drivers in states across the country and highlights ownership experiences ranging from used EV purchases to multi-generational households sharing a single vehicle.

"EV adoption is no longer limited to a specific type of driver," Boone said. "Across the country, we're seeing EVs work for people and their lifestyles in every state."

Boone says affordability remains one of the biggest conversation points, especially as consumers navigate rising costs in other parts of their budgets.

"One of the many benefits of driving electric is that you can kind of plan your monthly budget," Boone said. "Unlike gas prices, which are volatile and seemingly always going up, electricity prices are predictable and constant."

The hub also includes tools that allow consumers to calculate potential savings, explore charging options, and compare ownership costs based on their ZIP code and driving habits.

Organizers say the goal is to make EV ownership feel less intimidating and more relatable.

For many current EV owners featured on the platform, the message is simple: driving electric doesn't necessarily mean changing your lifestyle -- it may simply mean changing how much you spend getting around.
