Wharton ISD announced the lockdown via a Facebook post at about 7:43 a.m.

During the lockdown, authorities searched the campus. Parents were asked not to take students to either campus. Additionally, all buses were being held on the bus ramp.
Wharton ISD police said no gun was found. Wharton Police Department officers were also there and confirmed at about 8:50 a.m. that the scene had been cleared.
An hour later, the district said in a release that the lockdowns had been lifted, and students were allowed to safely transition to class.
The district provided no further details.
"As always the safety of our students and staff are our top priority," Wharton ISD said.

Wharton High School is located at 1 Tiger Avenue.
