Texas is out, but Houston set to host powerhouse CFP national title matchup: Michigan vs. Washington

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (KTRK) -- Next stop: Houston.

In the last year, Eyewitness Sports has reported behind the scenes of the Bayou City's preparations to host the the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship, which was awarded to Houston back in 2017.

Years of planning are now down to mere days after Monday night's Sugar Bowl went final.

The University of Washington denied the Texas Longhorns of a home state national title bid, defeating UT, 37-31.

The No. 2 Huskies advance to face off with the No. 1 Michigan Wolverines, who dispatched No. 4 Alabama in overtime of the Rose Bowl Game, next Monday at NRG Stadium.

Houston will host CFP festivities in the days leading up to the Jan. 8 game.
