HPD said it happened around 1:20 a.m. in the 9400 block of Avenue J.
Authorities say two men approached the home before gunfire broke out between the three individuals.

Police say the suspects were never able to enter the home.
HPD tells ABC13 that the homeowner was shot once before taking himself to a local fire station for assistance.
They also said one of the suspects suffered several gunshot wounds and was later found on Avenue L. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
Police say that the suspects knocked on someone's door after the alleged home invasion attempt and shootout.

The other suspect, according to HPD, is on the run after leaving the scene. It is possible that the suspect left the area in a car.
