Tree topples on woman, killing her
A strong weather system is being blamed for the death of a woman in NE Houston after a tree toppled on top of her

HOUSTON -- Neighbors say a woman was instantly killed when a tree limb fell on her in northeast Houston during Tuesday morning's storms, and her young son witnessed it all.

It happened around 8am in the 11000 block of Pandora. George San Miguel says he heard a loud crash but didn't think much of it. But as he was leaving his house to drop off his kids at school, he noticed his neighbor lying on the ground in the driveway.

He says he saw the tree limb over the woman's head and noticed a downed power line next to her.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim, but family members have identified her as 52-year-old Kathy Bottera. Family members tell us her seven-year-old son was outside in the driveway and saw the accident happen.

"He's trying to tell her, 'Wake up mommy, wake up mommy,' and mommy does not wake up so he's in shock," Bottera's brother-in-law, Matt Hodge, said.

Because of that shock, family members believe the boy didn't know what else to do but to go to his school. They believe he took the bus there and that's where he reported what happen.

The boy is now recovering at a local hospital where he will stay overnight for observation with minor scratches to his neck. The concern, say family members, is not so much his physical health but his mental state of mind.
