Which roads in Houston need attention?
Prop 1 authorizes money for road repairs in Texas, but which ones should be fixed first?

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houstonians want a fix for our area's traffic problems.

Voters overwhelmingly passed Proposition 1 this week. The referendum promised to divert more than a billion dollars toward road repairs throughout the state.

Here in southeast Texas, you don't need to go far to find aggravated drivers like Blakely Griggs.

"I think Westheimer seems to be a little rough in River Oaks. San Felipe needs a little work," said Griggs. "I wish it could be widened because there is way too much traffic heading out that way."

Griggs and others like Jamie Litrun can tell you quickly which part of town frustrates them most.

"45 without a doubt, 45 North and South," said Litrun. "Disaster down in Clear Lake, disaster going up north to the Woodlands."

On Thursday afternoon, Eyewitness News spoke with transportation expert Alan Clark with the Houston-Galveston Area Council. Clark said local leaders right now are working with each other, trying to come up with priority projects.

Clark said they should have a final list by March 2015. They're optimistic additional funding to local TxDOT could be almost $100 million.

Ultimately, the decision is up to the state legislators to prioritize and direct funding. He stressed the importance of helping ease bottlenecks and fill in missing links.

"Near Loop 610 and US 59, or I45 and Loop 610 on the south side, where we don't have a complete interchange," said Clark. "These are places where we can spend maybe not a real large amount of money ... but make a significant impact."
