HOUSTON (KTRK) -- All northbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway are now reopened after a car fire shut the freeway down, creating a rush hour nightmare.

Officials forced all traffic off the freeway at the Kirby exit, due to a vehicle fire on the mainlanes.

The road has since reopened but drivers can expect major delays in the area. Check real-time traffic.
