Pearland sluggers win first LLWS matchup, a 6-4 win over Rhode Island

Pearland wins opener at LLWS
The sluggers had to sweat it out, but advanced to the winner's bracket in Williamsport.

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (KTRK) -- Matthew Adams stuck out seven in 4 2-3 innings to help Pearland beat Cumberland, Rhode Island, 6-4 on Friday night in the Little League World Series.

Landon Donley earned a save in the opener, allowing a run on a fielder's choice before getting Addison Kopack to fly out to deep right center.

Michael Groover had a two-run single for Pearland in the top of the sixth.

Pearland will play again on Sunday against a team from Philadelphia.

Sixteen teams will compete for the final two spots in the Championship Final set for August 24th. There are eight teams from the U.S. They'll face each other and the U.S. winner will face the International bracket winner the Little League World Series title.
