Save money on Apple products when buying used

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Buying brand new Apple products can be pretty pricey, especially if you need to buy more than one item. But there is a way to get these hot electronics at a discounted price.

It's often sticker shock when you walk into an Apple store. There's a new player in town and they are making those slick products a lot more affordable.

You wouldn't think an Apple computer would bring tears to Christina and William Sizemore's eyes, but it did. The couple lost their home to a fire in February. A candle caused the fire. Because Christine is a graphic designer, she had four Mac computers in her office that were destroyed in the fire.

Starting brand new wasn't an option. That's when the couple turned to David Scarbrough, the owner of Experimac in West Houston.

The savings can be significant. Prices vary based on the age and condition of a product, but you can expect to save up to 60 percent over buying new.

For example, a 15-inch Macbook Pro retails brand new for $1,799. At Experimac, it's $849.
