Large fire burns at recycling center in Houston, shelter in place lifted

Shelter in place order issued around massive fire
Hours after erupting, a massive fire at a northeast Houston recycling plant was still burning, prompting HFD to order a precautionary measure for people around the inferno.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A large trash fire at a recycling facility in northeast Houston on Wednesday prompted a shelter in place to be issued for residents in the area.

It happened at Independent Texas Recyclers in the 6800 block of Irvington Boulevard.

The shelter in place order was later lifted for the area overnight.

The Houston Fire Department had 25 units on scene as the fire burned.

Several viewers posted videos of large plumes of smoke coming from the recycling building, which is located at 6810 Irvington Blvd.

No injuries have been reported. There's no immediate word on what caused the fire.
