Six family members are presumed dead after a heartbreaking van ride in north Harris County.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Proceeds from a Saturday morning fundraiser will offset funeral costs for six family members killed when their van was overcome by floodwaters near Greens Bayou.

The event will take place at 2321 Trenton Rd. on Saturday, Sept. 2, beginning at 11 a.m. Food plates will be sold to raise money to fund funeral costs.

Last weekend, Devy, Dominic, Xavier and Daisy Saldivar were traveling with their great-grandparents Belia and Manuel Saldivar and their uncle, Manuel "Sammy" Saldivar, in the van.

The family had just made their way over a bridge when the vehicle was caught in the swollen bayou as Hurricane Harvey dumped record amounts of rainfall on the area.

Sammy Saldivar, who managed to escape from the van and cling to a tree branch until rescuers arrived, survived the ordeal. The van and the remains of six of its passengers were located Wednesday morning.
