Tomball police and the Texas Rangers need your help to find the person who killed Ovidio Sanan Castro

TOMBALL, TX (KTRK) -- Tomball police and the Texas Rangers met with reporters Wednesday to try to solve a murder. And they need the public's help to do so.

It's disconcerting because there hasn't been a murder in Tomball in at least 3 years.

The victim is Ovidio Castro, 31. Police tell us he's a day laborer who had lived in Tomball for about five years. He was known as responsible and regularly sent money home to his wife and two children in Guatemala.

He primarily worked landscaping jobs until Monday, Februrary 16.

Police tell us a driver passing by spotted Castro's body that day in a wooded area on Snook Lane. When officers arrived, they discovered he'd been shot several times.

Investigators don't believe robbery was the motive. Instead, they say it was a conflict with someone he knew and are hoping fellow day laborers could be encouraged to come forward.

"They're very mobile," said Sgt. Noe Diaz with the Texas Rangers. "They often don't have cell phones. They frequently move from place to place. It may be difficult to sit them down to interview and get information from them."

If you have information on this crime, please call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

The Texas Rangers stress they are not interested in anyone's immigration status. They're simply trying to solve this murder. If you call in a tip, you can remain anonymous.
