HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A SWAT situation has ended in deadly gunfire. Police shot and killed a man accused of kidnapping his estranged wife.

Around 12:20am this morning, officers were called to the La Quinta Inn, located along the Southwest Freeway.

A witness dialed 911 after seeing a man force a woman into a vehicle at gunpoint. The man took off driving with the woman inside the car.

Police found the man's vehicle nearby in the 5900 block of Bonhomme in Southwest Houston. A woman was inside the car. Officers backed off the scene and called in the SWAT team.

Members of the SWAT team talked to the man on a loudspeaker, calling for him to surrender. Officers then used diversion devices to get attention away from the woman. Meanwhile, an officer grabbed her from the car and pulled her to safety.

Investigators say the man then got out of the black SUV and pointed a gun at officers. Two officers opened fire, shooting and killing the man. The man was pronounced dead.

HPD's Internal Affairs is now investigating the case.
