Suspected hit and run driver behind bars
Billy Dale Barnett, Jr. is accused of hitting a 13-year-old along a roadway and didn't stop to render aid

MONTGOMERY, TX (KTRK) -- A suspected hit and run driver is now behind bars. He was arrested Sunday for allegedly hitting a Montgomery County Commissioner's young son and then fleeing the scene.

The accident happened on Champions Ridge Road just before 5:30pm.

Deputies say 25-year-old Billy Dale Barnett, Jr. of Magnolia hit 13-year-old Maverick Noack and took off. Maverick says he was standing along the roadway when he says someone driving that silver pickup hit him and threw him into the ditch.

"It didn't hurt at first but then it started hurting a lot," said Maverick.

His father, Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack, took photographs of the injuries and posted the story on Facebook.

"How does somebody hit a child and leave him laying in the ditch? That's what he did. He sped away as fast as he could. I was able to run up and get his license plate number," said Precinct 3 Commissioner Noack.

Authorities tracked down Barnett after 7pm in north Harris County. He was taken into custody without incident.

"I'm proud of how our local, state and federal law enforcement agencies worked together," said Commissioner Noack.

Maverick considers himself lucky. He's focused on one thing.

"I hope I can play football on Tuesday," said Maverick.

Meanwhile, Barnett is expected to face a judge on Monday.
