Sugar Land cell phone store theft caught on camera

SUGAR LAND, TX (KTRK) -- Police have released video from a Sugar Land cell phone store robbery in hopes you can help them catch the suspects.

It happened at the Cellular Sales of Texas at 19820 Southwest Freeway at around 10am on Saturday.

Police say two employees were alone inside the store when a man wearing a surgical mask got out of a silver Hyundai passenger vehicle and approached the front door. One of the employees used a remote device to unlock the front door.

Once inside, police say the masked man showed a gun and told employees to unlock the door for another man waiting in the vehicle.

A second masked man entered the store with a duffle bag, and the employees were forced to open a safe used to store phones.

The criminals left with a bag full of phones.

Police were able to locate the vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 59 at Williams Trace. They began to chase the suspects' vehicle, but stopped when they determined the chase was too dangerous to continue.

During the chase, police say two bags containing stolen phones were thrown from the Hyundai.

A spokesperson for Cellular Sales issued the following statement about the robbery:

    A cell phone store robbery is nearly a weekly occurrence in the Houston area.

    We are working very closely with local law enforcement agencies to assist in anyway we can to put a stop to these type of crimes."
