HOUSTON (KTRK) --Sources tell us detectives are talking to two people who could be connected to the murder of 4-year-old Ava Castillo. She was gunned down two weeks ago in north Harris County.
Eyewitness News has learned one person was arrested for an unrelated crime, but is being questioned by homicide detectives.
Mother of murdered girl speaks
For the first time, the little girl's mom is speaking publicly about that night. Diana Gomez was shot seven times. She just got out of the hospital. Her 10-year-old daughter was also hit, but she survived.
It was her youngest daughter, Ava, who was killed.
Gomez and her girls had just gotten home to their apartment and were unloading groceries when Gomez said three men tried to rob them. One of the men started shooting.
Gomez said, "He just ran off, that's when I saw my daughter on the floor and she wasn't able to breathe no more and she was just...she was trying...I was screaming, 'Ava.'"
While at least one man is being questioned, no one has been charged.
