ROSENBERG, TX (KTRK) -- It's been more than two days since a handcuffed Cortley Deshawn Blackmon slipped away from troopers. And now, we're learning specific details about why they consider him armed and dangerous.

Blackmon, 28, somehow managed to simply run away from a DPS patrol station Saturday and into the cold night.

Authorities say they pulled him over at Spur 10 and U.S. 59 for a traffic stop, realized he was wanted for two warrants -- bail jumping and failing to appear in court -- and arrested him. DPS took him to a patrol station in Rosenberg, where he escaped.

Rosenberg police say Blackmon had a handgun on him at the time of his arrest. Neighbors nearby admit they're nervous, and want him caught soon.

"How could he escape? Where is he at? It's pretty crazy," said resident Aylin Salazar.

"Turn yourself in bro," added resident Christian Guerra. "You're only making it harder on yourself."

Blackmon is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds. He was last seen in a black sweater and black shorts.

Investigators say he has a long criminal history and could have access to weapons so he should be considered dangerous; you should call 911 if you see him.

Eyewitness News spoke with Blackmon's aunt by phone Sunday night. She's skeptical of the circumstances surrounding his escape, but says family members will turn him in if he surfaces. She said they haven't seen him since he fled.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-252-TIPS. Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest or indictment.
