A young mother was shot and killed in north Houston Sunday morning.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A young mother was shot and killed in north Houston Sunday morning.

Police say she was an innocent bystander trying to get home.

According to police, people had just left Club Panda and were in traffic on west Little York off I-45.

The victim has been identified by her mother as 21-year-old Essence Derouen. She leaves behind a 6-year-old son.

Police say Derouen was in her car when a gunman started shooting towards the club.
