PEARLAND, TX (KTRK) -- A Pearland Volunteer Fire Department website is now down after jihadists appeared to have taken over the website yesterday.
For about a day, the website showed a jihadi fighter and a flag accompanied by audio. The page also showed writing in Arabic and a threat to Israel on the site.
This is the current website for the Pearland Fire Department.
The Pearland Volunteer Fire Department says it became aware of the "malicious intrusion" yesterday. They issued this statement today:
The Pearland Volunteer Fire Department is a 501 (c)(4) non-profit corporation that supports firefighting, fire safety and emergency medical services in the City of Pearland. It provides volunteers to support the City of Pearland Fire Department. It also raises funds from the community to support firefighters and public safety in the City of Pearland.
The Pearland Volunteer Fire Department's website is hosted by a commercial website host. There is no reason to believe that the City of Pearland's computer system was affected by this intrusion.
The City of Pearland has issued this statement:
The City of Pearland, in partnership with our Web site vendor, Vision Internet has put in place measures to counteract these kinds of cyber threats on all official City web pages - of which, this is not."
