Recovery effort underway after driver veers into Buffalo Bayou

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- One man is presumed dead after his vehicle veered into the Buffalo Bayou near Montrose and Memorial Drive.

Houston Fire Department was called to the scene around 7:30pm Friday. A recovery effort with assistance from HPD's Dive Team is underway.

A group of runners saw the accident happen and tried to rescue the man to no avail.

The victim is described as a black male who appeared to be in his late 20s and wearing glasses.

No other details have been released.
