Man charged in 12-year-old's murder
Kahlid Yusuf Worrell, 24, a.k.a. "Chirp", is now charged in connection with the murder of Dunta "Bubba" Cooks.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- After a week on the run, the man wanted for killing a 12-year-old boy is behind bars. Kahlid Yusuf Worrell, 24, aka "Chirp", is now charged in connection with the murder of Dunta "Bubba" Cooks.

Eyewitness News has learned Worrell is already on probation for a burglary. He is now behind bars and no bond is set.

According to investigators, Worrell shot and killed Dunta on New Year's Day at his mother's home in northwest Harris County. Worrell is accused of shooting two other people in Dunta's family. They are recovering from their injuries.

Worrell's defense attorney Charles Brown said, "(Worrell) has given me information on how to reach his family and I am doing that, so the case is going to be reset - after that, it's a long way down the road."

Prosecutor Britni Cooper said, "He was identified by witnesses as the shooter in the case."

In court, the prosecutor said the witnesses had identified Morrell as the person responsible for shooting Dunte.
