HOUSTON -- Jurors are deliberating the fate of a doctor accused of poisoning her colleague, who was also her lover.
The assault trial of Dr. Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo went to the jury Wednesday after closing arguments.
Prosecutors told jurors all the evidence in the case points to Gonzalez-Angulo.
Her attorneys countered the prosecution's case was "nothing but speculation and guesswork."
Prosecutors rested their case earlier Wednesday. Gonzalez-Angulo's attorneys did not call any witnesses.
Gonzalez-Angulo, a breast cancer doctor, is accused of spiking researcher George Blumenschein's coffee in 2013 with a chemical found in antifreeze. Blumenschein survived.
Prosecutors allege Gonzalez-Angulo's relationship with Blumenschein turned into a "fatal attraction" after he spurned her for his longtime girlfriend, Evette Toney. Defense attorneys argued others, including Toney, may be responsible. Toney denied the allegation.
