Jeb Bush knows he's not Hispanic.

After the New York Times reported Monday that the former Florida governor and potential 2016 presidential candidate identified himself as Hispanic in a 2009 Dade County voter registration application, Bush took to Twitter to react, saying it was a mistake.

But Twitter isn't done with Bush after his social media mea culpa. Several parody accounts featuring Bush in a sombrero have popped up since the report.

Florida Democrats haven't overlooked the mistake either. "It's important to pay attention to those types of details," said Max Steele, the Florida Democratic Party's press secretary.

A representative for Bush did not return ABC's request for comment.

A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Elections Department said Bush is planning to submit corrected voter information.

Bush, who speaks fluent Spanish and married his high school sweetheart Columba after meeting her on a service trip to Mexico, spent time living and working in Venezuela before settling in Miami. He's expected to use his background to woo Hispanic voters in a possible presidential run.
