An eyewitness says a tire shop in west Houston exploded before it caught on fire

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston firefighters are working to determine what started a large fire at a tire shop in west Houston.

The flames broke out around 3:13am at "Lucky's Tires and Wheels" in the 1620 block of S. State Hwy. 6. Witnesses in the area called for help when they heard an explosion and saw the flames.

"I pulled right up here into this gas station, and right when I made the u-turn, I heard a big ol KABOOM," said Aaron Lavan. "From there on everybody start coming all (over). The firemans was coming from left, right, down here on Briar Forest, and I was in shock because I've never seen an explosion in real life before, so I was like 'oh my goodness.'"

The HFD Arson Bureau is on scene investigating this fire.

"I didn't see anybody get hurt, so I'm thankful that nobody got hurt. My prayers go out to whoever business it is," Lavan said.
