An Iowa woman and her boyfriend are facing charges after police say meth was found in a 1-year-old's system

NEWTON, IA -- An Iowa woman is facing charges after a 1-year-old child left in her care reportedly tested positive for meth, reports KCCI-TV. Her boyfriend is also now facing charges.

Court documents show that the child had five times the amount of meth in his system as his caregiver, Vanessa Trotter. Police were tipped off when her property manager and neighbors noticed something wasn't right.

Police in Newton arrested Trotter and her boyfriend, Cody Sanders. Both were charged with child endangerment.

"The signs would have been pretty obvious that the child was not acting normal," said Newton acting police chief Rob Burdess.

No word on the condition of the child.
