Gun theft in Brazoria county gun shop

ROSHARON, TX (KTRK) -- Investigators are looking for at least one man who broke into a Brazoria County gun shop and stole several weapons.

Detectives responded to an alarm call at about 3am at Pride Arms Guns and Ammo. Upon arrival, they found a portion of the front window broken. Looking at surveillance video, they discovered a man wearing a ski mask had entered the business through that window.

You can see him using a small sledge hammer to break into a safe which was storing the guns. Sheriff's deputies say the man stole an AK-47, AR-15 and shotguns, among other weapons.

"Oh I'm very concerned. This is a thing that's happening a lo," said investigator Ulysses Velez of the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. "People have been breaking into pawn shops, other stores, gun shops and they're stealing these weapons and they're either going to gangs or across the border to Mexico."

The owner of Pride Arms Guns and Ammo refused to talk to us. Investigators are working on the release of surveillance video which they hope will help catch the thie.

This incident has also been referred to the ATF. A spokesperson says these types of thefts are becoming more and more common. You might remember the 73 weapons stolen recently from a Houston Academy store. Two men were arrested in that incident during which they allegedly kidnapped a security guard.
