HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Alley Theater has sustained millions of dollars in flood damage from Hurricane Harvey. The downtown theatre had just undergone a $46.5 million renovation.

The Neuhaus Theatre, adjacent Mitchell Lobby, prop storage and basement dressing rooms filled with water that reached the ceiling, past the high-water mark of 2001's Tropical Storm Allison. The Theatre's electrical systems that provide power to the administrative offices, the Production Center, and both stages are under water and are offline.

This institution got its name from starting out in a small space that was literally on an alley and rose to be one of the most prestigious nonprofit resident theaters in the U.S.

The downtown theatre's next production, "Describe the Night," will be held at the Quintero Theatre on University of Houston's campus. They aim to re-open by November for, "A Christmas Carol."
