Former soccer player shines as kicker for Cinco Ranch
Donny Smith is proving to be a contender as the kicker for the Cinco Ranch Football team

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Cinco Ranch senior Donny Smith started playing soccer as soon as he could walk. His football experience was very limited until he asked Cougars head coach Don Clayton to join the team this season and boy is Coach Clayton glad Smith did.

Coach Clayton said, "When Donny asked to try out I called last year's kicker Scott Thompson who's walked on at Baylor - I asked him, 'Is Donny any good?' He said, 'He is coach but he's real hard on himself,'"

That intensity is playing off. In the last two weeks Smith has hit two game winners in the final seconds -- a 25 yarder to beat Cy-Ranch 27- 24. And last week a 41 yarder that bounced off the cross bar to beat Jersey Village 30 to 27 setting off a wild celebration by the Cinco Ranch fans.

"I've been there before I react well to pressure, I wouldn't have been in that position of it wasn't for the entire time," said Smith.

The reaction not as jubilant on the Jersey Village side, they couldn't believe Smith made it. While up in the Cinco Ranch coaching Booth.

They went wild when Smith's kick when through setting off their own celebration.
