He was taken to UTMB in Galveston, where he died.
Trevino's family tells Eyewitness News the La Marque High School sophomore was on his way home from football practice.
Shone Evans, head football coach and athletic coordinator at LMHS, released a statement after Trevino's passing:
"Jason was an incredibly special young man. He was the type of person that would do anything for anyone. He was a member of the La Marque High School football and basketball teams and loved all sports. He loved his after school activities, but most of all he loved all people. He was truly everyone's friend. Since my time at La Marque, Jason was always someone I could count on to have a smile on his face regardless of what was being asked of him. He always looked to do what needed to be done, even if no-one else wanted the job. Jason exemplified our team motto of #FAMILY, and will be dearly missed by all."
LMHS Principal Ricky G. Nicholson, Jr., gave this statement:
"Jason exemplified all the qualities of a model student. He made it a point to do EVERYTHING the right way. Jason's responses were always followed by 'Yes sir, No sir or Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am.' He was a member of the Cougar Guard; running flags for the Varsity football team. Jason was also involved in our football and basketball programs. Community service was a huge part of his life as he spent many weekends feeding the homeless and assisting his church with their sidewalk ministry. Whenever he saw someone with their hands full, he'd stop to help, whether you wanted it or not. He was liked by all and will truly be missed in his school and community."
The Union Pacific Railroad is investigating the accident.
