With the wind staying elevated through the night, low temperatures will only dip into the mid 70s, which is near record warm for lows at this time of the year. The southeast wind will strengthen after sunrise, gusting up to 40 mph at times.
While the day begins overcast, the clouds should part enough in the afternoon to warm temperatures into the mid 80s.
If you manage to get any big breaks in the clouds, the sky won't look very blue. Instead, it will look more hazy gray as smoke from the seasonal fires in Mexico thickens. The air quality index is expected to remain in the "moderate" range, meaning most people won't notice much of an impact on their health and breathing.
How does the weather for the rest of the weekend look?
We are monitoring the possibility of some strong thunderstorms arriving Sunday as that powerful weather system blows through the Plains. This is a conditional storm threat, meaning that it's possible no storms develop, but if they do, they will be strong or even severe. Should the storms materialize, they could bring heavy rain, and we cannot rule out severe hail and wind gusts at this time. For that reason, we are encouraging you to stay weather aware on Sunday, especially if you have outdoor plans. An ABC13 Weather Alert Day is possible.
Are there any more cool fronts coming ahead of summer?
We now have one penciled in for the first Friday of May! This front will bring a chance of thunderstorms when it blows in followed by a day or two of lower humidity. It may not do much to drop our temperatures.
