SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- Scott and his family are essentially living in a construction zone after their home in the Cypresswood area flooded in April.
"It was like torture watching it slowly creep in," Scott said, "It was a very helpless feeling."
Now when rain is in the forecast, he rolls out the Water Gate, a massive plastic flood barrier that wraps around his home.
"I hope I don't have to use it, hope I never have to use it," Scott said. "But it seems real common sense as far as how it works."
He bought it from Michael Head, owner of Gulf Coast Storm Protection.
"When the water hits right here, it raises this up, and these little pockets that are sewn in, keep it from flipping back," Head said.
Head said the biggest flood barriers he sells can block up to six feet of water from entering homes.
The prices for flood barriers with built-in weights range from $2,600 to $3,000. The price depends on how much protection the customer wants.
For Scott, the price is worth it compared to the possibility of remodeling once again.
