Still Flooded
Some residents in Bear Creek Village are still stranded by floodwaters

HARRIS COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- One week after the floods started, many families living in Bear Creek Village still cannot drive to and from their homes.

Veronica Kozuko flew in from out of state to take care of her elderly mother, Victoria, who is confined to a wheelchair.

"You can't think straight because you have so many things coming at you at one time," said Kozuko. "It's hard to know what to do next. you just look around and everything's a mess, you don't know where to start."

David DeVoll lives next door. He wants county officials to do something about the water in the street.

"Me personally, to go to Kroger to get my medicines, it can't be done," said DeVoll. "Unless you want to walk a half a mile and hitch a ride and depend upon somebody else to pick you up and drive you out."

According to the Harris County Flood Control District, the Army Corps of Engineers is draining water from the Addicks Reservoir into Buffalo Bayou. That should help drain water from the neighborhood streets, too, but it could take five days.

"I know the Harris County Constable Precinct 5, they're driving through Bear Creek Village checking on people," Kim Jackson said, "That's their patrol area."

Neighbors feel like they're getting the worst part of the flood.

"It's unconscionable," said Kozuko.

She is doing her best, despite the circumstances, to help her mother feel at home again.
