Hurricane supplies handed out
400 families got free supplies at an event to help them prepare for the upcoming hurricane season

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Some Houston got a little extra prepared for the upcoming hurricane season this morning at the 5th Ward Multi-Service Center on market street.

Some 400 families showed up to get a free bucket filled with supplies. Many of the residents remember six years ago when Ike ravaged the Houston area. They admit they were not prepared for that storm that year. This year, they will be prepared.

Lowe's gave each of those families a bucket full of supplies.

"Things like flashlights and a glo stick and after things like tarps and ropes and duct tape to do a temporary fix," said Rick Jordan of Lowe's.

The event is also a heads up to everyone to get their own supplies ready. There are similar events being held in other coastal cities across the nation.

Hurricane season begins on June first, which is this coming Sunday.
