Traffic may be affected by spring break, Tour de Houston this weekend

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Texas Department of Transportation appears to be taking a bit of a break from some large construction projects this spring break weekend.

Work on the US-290 project, however, continues. Plan to see a total closure of the inbound director ramps to 610. Your best alternate route is to take the I-10 direct connector, and u-turn to approach 610 from the west side. As crews near completion, they will close main lanes at the Antoine/34th Street exit. Detour to the frontage road, continue as it changes to the 610 southbound frontage to Old Katy Road, then turn left on Old Katy Road to I-10. If you are driving to 610, enter I-10 westbound to 610 north or south.

Traffic will also be blocked off along the Hardy Toll Road this weekend, between FM-1960 and I-45. The closure lasts from Friday at 10pm until Monday at 5am. Drivers can use I-45 the North Freeway as an alternate route.

Additionally, watch out for lots of bike traffic on Sunday! The Tour de Houston is a bike ride for both competitive and leisure riders. The ride has a staggered start -- 7:30am for the 70-mile route, 8:00am for the 45-mile route and 8:30am for the 20-mile route. The ride begins and ends at Hermann Square in front of City Hall. The Houston Police Department in coordination with other security entities will manage traffic control at all intersections along the route.

If you're riding in the event Sunday, you can park for free in Lot C and H at corner of Memorial and Houston Avenue for cars with roof top bike racks. Theater District Parking on Rusk between Bagby and Smith will be available for cars with trunk mounted bike racks.
