Drivers sought in deadly hit-and-run
A man was killed on the Eastex Freeway early Thursday morning

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The search is on for the drivers who hit and killed a man early Thursday morning on the Eastex Freeway.

The freeway was shut down at FM 1960 for nearly all of rush hour. Police say the man killed appears to have been a driver with car trouble.

Police aren't releasing the victim's name, pending notification of family members, but they say the victim is a 22-year-old man.

Humble police first got a call of someone darting through traffic on the northbound side of the Eastex Freeway, right before FM 1960 at about 5:30am. The next call was of someone down on the roadway. Police discovered the man, dead, and his vehicle on the southbound side of the freeway, with two flat tires, both on the left-hand side.

Police believe the victim was trying to cross the road to get some help. They are hoping any witnesses can come forward with more information.

Sgt. Ken Theis with the Humble Police Department said, "We have a couple of vehicles - one, possibly two vehicles - that if anyone was coming through that area during that time and thinks they may have hit road debris, or something like that, please contact us, so that we can look into it further."
