Police say a suspected drunk driver traveling in the wrong direction on the East Freeway caused a fatal crash

BAYTOWN, TX (KTRK) -- A driver was killed by a suspected drunk driver who was heading the wrong way on the freeway.



It happened just after midnight on the I-10 East Freeway westbound lanes near Cedar Bayou.



The Baytown police department say the 27-year-old driver of a Chrysler 300 was likely drunk when he got onto the freeway in the wrong direction. He then hit the driver of a red Chevy Cavalier head-on, killing the driver of the Chevy.



The driver of the Chrysler suffered minor injuries and he was taken to a Houston hospital. Intoxication manslaughter charges against him are pending.



The East Freeway was closed for several hours while police investigated the accident. The victim's identity has not yet been released.
